10. Are There Two Lords?
(Mark 12:35-37)
35Then Jesus answered and said, while He taught in the temple, “How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the Son of David?36For David himself said by the Holy Spirit: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”’37Therefore David himself calls Him ‘Lord’; How is He then his Son?” And the common people heard Him gladly.

Jesus, as a true man, was a descendant of King David. Those of the old covenant knew that the promised Messiah would come from the seed of this king. David was not blameless. He had committed grievous faults, but he repented sincerely, and became a good example to all the repentant, having broken himself before God, and believed in his comprehensive forgiveness. The Lord granted him the spirit of praise, and he glorified God more than any other prophet of the Old Testament did. Even today, we see in his psalms and songs of praise the inspiring power of the Holy Spirit. We speak his words, and pray them joyfully.
God also granted David the spirit of prophecy, for he was open to his divine voice. The Lord revealed to him that the Son who was to “spring up” from his seed was not only a man, but also the Lord himself. This ancient prophecy surpasses all understanding. Thus, he who adheres to the Spirit of God becomes enlightened, and recognizes this great mystery.
Today, we know that Christ was born of God before all ages. He became incarnate through Virgin Mary, i.e. through the seed of David. His divinity was the condition and basis of his redemptive death, the prevailing motive of his resurrection from the dead, and the power in his ascension to heaven.
By his ascension to his Father, he fulfilled God’s promise in David’s prophecy, which says: “The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at My right hand, till I make Yoake Your enemies Your footstool.’” (Psalms 110:1).
Christianity knows that Jesus Christ lives and sits at the right hand of God. Before his death, Jesus confessed clearly: “Hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power.”
You may ask: then there are two Lords!
The answer is no, for the Lord is one. But he appears in two persons. All those who say there is but one unique Lord, or those who say there are two or three gods, deceive themselves, for God is one in three persons, in a complete union. Jesus confessed this truth, and everyone who is of the truth hears his voice.
Today, we find two parties in the world: the first calls out to Jesus as the Son of God, the Savior, the Redeemer, and the Lord, for he is the foundation of their faith and the end of their hope. And the second violently denies Jesus’ divinity. It looks at him as a man and prophet who shows great signs and extraordinary gifts. Those of the second party have neither known nor enjoyed the privileges of reconciliation to God, having not accepted the sending of his Son as a historical fact.
Are you a friend of Christ, or his brother by adoption? Or are you his enemy against his divinity? The Holy Spirit constitutes a difference between the two parties, and the angels of God will make all those who do not believe a footstool to the meek Lamb of God. Then, what about your future? Will you reign with him forever? Did you recognize this fact? Christ sits at the right hand of his Father, and reigns with him in the unity of the Holy Spirit forever. It is not important what people, parties, and doctrines say, for our Lord is living, and his glorious coming is the aim of the world history. Are you prepared to receive him?

Prayer
O Lord Jesus Christ, I shout to you for you are my Lord and my God. I believe that you live and reign with the Father forever, that you redeemed me together with all those who believe in your name, and that you restored me from death, and delivered me from the authority of the devil, not with silver and gold, but with your precious blood, and your innocent sufferings that I might live in your everlasting kingdom as your own, submitting to your love, and serving you in your righteousness, purity, and happiness. I also believe that you rose from the dead, and that you live and reign forever. Amen.
